Reality away from reality.

There is this unspoken word between two people that forms a basic understanding of their entire relationship. You don't need to acknowledge it in writing or in speech, it just hangs there, like a cloud, everytime you're in close proximity.

In a certain case, you know what the other party is thinking, and they know what you think. You keep your distance without even a wink of an eye, and go on your separate ways.

Day in, day out, this becomes a routine. No hard feelings, or any reaction of any kind. Just the way it is.

One day, you step over that boundary, and regrettably play your hand first. You know the odds of this hand is quite bad, but you play it anyway, simply because you're tired of doing nothing.

So you retire to your quarters, feeling embarrassed and not too complete. You've thought about it for a long time, but you already knew that piece of grass you stepped on is not on your lawn.

You wished things were different, but there's not a whole lot you can do.

A sigh, and all forgotten...
